- For relaxation: Sink into a squishy sofa by the fire in the huge drawing room, or on a summer’s day enjoy tea on the lawn.
- For recreation: Croquet and clay pigeon shooting on the property
- Practicalities: Bathrobes, magazines, bottled water, tea/coffee and home-baked treats, writing paper, flat-screen TVs, DVD players, radio alarm clocks and hairdryers in each bedroom.
Outside
A magnificent garden surrounded by farmland. Brimming with unusual trees and shrubs, the gardens – now open to the public for charity days – have been nurtured for over 30 years. Here you will find a brilliant display of tulips and carpets of aubrieta in spring, followed by bursts of roses, the sweet scent of honeysuckle, and a mass of hostas and ferns in summer. Most of the farmland is arable, except the grassland in front of the house where rare breed Whitefaced Woodland and Llanwenog sheep graze.
Food and wine
- In-house cuisine: Available on a B&B basis only. Additional catering can be arranged for groups of 4 or more guests. Tuck into a full English breakfast in the dining hall. Local, organic ingredients are used where possible, including free-range eggs from the hens. (Dietary requirements catered for if notified in advance.)
- Eating out: Your hosts will give you the low-down on a range of pubs and restaurants in the local villages. These include The Red Lion (01604 770223), Althorp Coaching Inn (www.althorpcoachinginn.co.uk) and The Swan (www.mcmanuspub.co.uk).
